Water

As one of the most important parts of a residential or commercial building, you want to make sure your water is hooked up by the best.

As with all of our jobs, the cost of a water job varies.  This is because a water main line can be anywhere from 25ft to 500ft.  Some of the other cost factors are pipe material, access to the water line, and the depth of the water line. We will work with you to get the best price for the best work.

Our work process is also similar to how we perform a sewer or septic hook up which is laid out below.

Elevation

Once an engineered plan has been drawn up, we begin the working on the elevation.  Starting where the main drain exits the foundation, there has to be a downward slope to the pipes.  We measure and lay out our elevations with laser levels.

Trenching

During the trenching, we follow the plan and guides that we have laid out carefully so the area is disturbed only where necessary. During the trenching, we periodically check the elevations to make sure we are still on target.  The final step is putting down a bedding material, typically sand or gravel to support the pipes.

Piping

All pipes are installed one part at a time and double checked before doing any permanent moves.  We use PVC pipes joined together with gasketed fittings or solvent glues which is the modern norm compared to old metal pipes which rust out.  Generally, we suggest a pipe size of 4” for residential lines, but follow local codes if they differ.

Backfilling

Once all of these steps have been completed, we can do the final step of backfilling.  This is carefully filling in all of the trenches and holes that we have created, making sure to fill in around the pipes and tanks and then compacting it all.
